Mussels have a dark blue to black shell with bright orange flesh. Unlike clams and oysters that can be served raw, mussels are generally cooked. Since BSF sources mussels from various coastlines, you can get them round the year and not just in the months ending with ‘ber’! You can serve them with fries a la moules frites or cook them in a broth, stir fry them Chinese style or batter fry them. Mussels also taste good in spicy Indian curries served with fragrant basmati rice. BSF mussels are thoroughly cleaned to remove any trace of sand or fibrous beard.
